The 5 Non-Toxic, All Natural Lipstick Brands I Love

Below, you can find each product’s safety scores according to the Environmental Working Group and the Think Dirty app, as well as links & downloads to each product’s safety report from EWG. I also triple check them with the Switch Natural app, as even some cosmetics that are EWG Verified contain potentially harmful ingredients…

Most lipstick contains lake dyes which can contain heavy metals. All of the lipsticks below are free from silicones, FD&C dyes, synthetic fragrance/flavor/parfum, or harsh preservatives.

Why I Love It

This is a very creamy lipstick that is also quite moisturizing. I have found it to be a somewhat thicker formula. The tube has a built-in lip balm and a tiny mirror which is really fun, and convenient for someone on-the-go.

According to their website, they infuse their lipstick with a “patented, GMO-Free plant based complex” to boost hydration.

Finish: Cream/Satin depending on the shade.

Zuzu Luxe Lipstick shades I've tried, swatched on my arm.

Ingredients:

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Crithmum Maritimum (Sea Fennel) Extract, Bisabolol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Iron Oxides, Mica, Hypericum Perforatum (St. John’s Wort) Extract, Titanium Dioxide.

Why I Love It

I enjoy how moisturizing yet light this lipstick feels. For me, it feels like I’m applying lip balm but with the color payoff of a lipstick. It is around $10 less than the Hynt lipstick.

Zuzu Luxe is part of Gabriel Cosmetics (another great brand of lipstick – see below!)

Finish: Cream/Satin depending on the shade.

Gabriel Lipstick shade I've tried, swatched on my arm.

Ingredients:

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Crithmum Maritimum (Sea Fennel) Extract, Bisabolol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Iron Oxides, Mica, Hypericum Perforatum (St. John’s Wort) Extract, Titanium Dioxide.

Why I Love It

Another very moisturizing lipstick from Gabriel Cosmetics, the parent company of Zuzu Luxe. What I noticed most about this lipstick is that it glides on so smoothly and has a slightly creamier texture than the Zuzu Luxe. I think they are both reasonably priced, especially for a clean brand.

*Think Dirty’s listing is outdated for this product.

Rituel de Fille Forbidden Lipstick shades I've tried, swatched on my arm.

Ingredients:

For shade Written In Blood:

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Carmine (Ci 75470), Silica (Silicon Dioxide), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Carnauba Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Mica (Ci 77019), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Tocopherol (Non-GMO Soy Derived)

Why I Love It

Super pigmented and rich, Rituel de Fille’s colors (in all of their products) are out of this world. I think the shade “Written In Blood” is close to a clean dupe for the Gxve Beauty Lipstick shade “Original Me,” but without the lake dyes! It is a beautiful blood-red shade and is also quite hydrating. My favorite shade was “Love In Madness” until they discontinued that shade 🙁

*EWG & Think Dirty’s listing does not include sunflower seed oil.

Rituel de Fille Enchanted Lip Sheers shades I've tried, swatched on my arm.

Ingredients:

For shade Bittersweet:

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Silica (Silicon Dioxide), Cera Alba (Beeswax), Carnauba Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Carmine (Ci 75470), Iron Oxide (Ci 77491, Ci 77492), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Tocopherol (Non-gmo Soy Derived)

Why I Love It

I have found these Lip Sheers to be more subtle and buildable than the Forbidden Lipsticks by Rituel de Fille. The Lip Sheers are comfortable to wear and I would prefer this lipstick if I still worked in an office. With this one, as with most lipsticks, I have found it beneficial to hydrate my lips first. I love using my Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm (commissions earned).

Why I Love It

These little balmies are so fun, versatile, and sustainable. They are under $20 each and you can get them in sets of 3 or more. You can use them anywhere on your face. With this one, I also prep my lips first with Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm (commissions earned) as it is a slightly dryer formula. My favorite shades so far are Raspberry and Watermelon.

Han Multi-Stick shades I've tried, swatched on my arm.

Ingredients:

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil*, Myrica Pubescens (Myrica) Fruit Wax, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuacu) Butter, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Extract,  Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract, Pisum Sativum (Pea) Peptide, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), L-Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Laminaria Japonica (Seaweed) Extract, Rosa Gallica Flower Powder, Beta Vulgaris Root Powder, Vanilla Planifolia Extract.
May Contain: Mica, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide.

Why I Love It

These multi-sticks are pretty hydrating, so I include them here. They also last for a few hours. Han Skincare Cosmetics has some excellent, clean products. I am a fan of their multi-sticks because they have a great color payoff and the price is not bad, especially since you can use them as lipstick, blush, or eyeshadow.

Tips

You can apply directly from the tube, but it is much wider than a traditional lipstick tube, so you might want to use a lip brush or your finger.

Note

I’ve heard 100% Pure (commissions earned) makes awesome lipsticks, but I did not include them here, because every time I check, they are out of most shades online. Although I know this is a great company, I don’t want to recommend something you can’t find. I contacted them to inquire about when they will restock, but unfortunately, they told me they cannot provide an ETA. Via Instagram, I believe they said they recently moved to a different manufacturing warehouse and hopefully it will get resolved soon.
