Everyday Clean Makeup - The BEST Nontoxic Makeup Products!

These are my holy grail products I use most days!

Below, you can find each product’s safety scores according to the Environmental Working Group and the Think Dirty app, as well as links & downloads to each product’s safety report from EWG. I also triple check them with the Switch Natural app, as even some cosmetics that are EWG Verified contain potentially harmful ingredients…

Everyday Clean Makeup 2

I use this multi-step approach to ensure that the clean beauty products I use and recommend are actually clean. Why?

There are many makeup brands that claim to be “clean” or “non toxic,” but they still use toxic ingredients like fragrance, peg compounds, siloxanes, or other potentially toxic ingredients.

I only list products here that I love. As an Amazon Associate, I earn commission from qualifying purchases.

My Shade: C2

EWG Score*

*I think this EWG score is misleading. I confirmed personally with Fitglow that the Chromium Oxide Greens used in the product do not contain the chromate ion (and that they follow the tighter cosmetics regulations required in the EU). Nevertheless, here is the EWG report. I used EWG’s Build Your Own Report feature.

Ingredients:

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil *, Cera Alba (Beeswax)* , Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Lauryl Laurate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Phytoelastin PF (Plant Elastin), Water, Phospholipids & Phytonadione (Vitamin K Liposome ) , Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Caffeine, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green Tea Extract ) *, Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract (Licorice Root) * May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Yellow Iron Oxide, Red Iron Oxide, Black Iron Oxide, Ultramarine Violet, Chromium Oxide Green, Manganese Violet. *Certified Organic Ingredients

Why I Love It

I’m so impressed by this concealer. I need full coverage on most days and this is actually full coverage (unlike many other concealers that claim to be “full coverage” but are not). It doesn’t just conceal. For me, it also color-corrects (my shade C2 has a peach undertone) and adds some glow!

Tips

I use water-based moisturizers underneath this (oils can cause makeup to break up). To minimize creasing and set it without looking cakey, I apply the (M)anasi 7 Silk Finish Powder with a Jenny Patinkin On Pointe Puff.

Ingredients:

Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Helianthus Annus (Sunflower) Seed Wax, Silica, Jojoba Esters, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax,Tocopherol, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil infused with Calendula Officinalis Flowers, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root, and Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile) Flowers*. May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, CI77491, CI77499, CI77492. * Certified Organic Ingredient.

Why I Love It

The Sappho New Paradigm Cream Concealer is one of my 2 favorite concealers and one of my top concealers for covering dark undereye circles. It is full coverage yet buildable, brightening, and long-lasting. It is slightly creamy, but not so creamy that it settles into all my lines, and it does not accentuate texture. I love that Sappho tests their products for PFAS and publishes the results on their website, positive or negative. Check out this post for my tips on covering undereye circles and setting concealer with minimal creasing.

Tips

A little bit goes a very long way. I apply this using this brush and/or this brush for detailed undereye concealing.

Ingredients:

Isoamyl Laurate, Isoamyl Cocoate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Helianthus Annuus Cera, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol Oryza Sativa Cera (Rice Bran) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Emblica Officinalis Fruit Extract, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Rhus Verniciflua Peel Cera (Berry Wax), Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed) Oil, Hydrogenated Olive Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables, Tocopheryl Acetate, Silica, Coleus Forskohlii. May Contain: CI 77891, CI 77492, CI 77491, CI 77499 (and) Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate (and) Cystine (and) Lauroyl Arginine

Why I Love It

The Plume Brow Pencil has replaced my Anastasia Brow Wiz, (along with other brow pencils I love) as the ingredients are much cleaner! This Plume Brow Pencil is very delicate, so you do not need to use much pressure at all. I found it to be soft and quite pigmented. The color match for me (shade: “Chestnut Decadence”) is good and comparable to the Anastasia “medium brown” shade. The barrel is wider than the Anastasia pencil, but I really love how lightweight it is.

It comes with a refill!

My shade: 02 French Chocolate (Matte Brown)

Ingredients:

Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Synthetic Wax, Isododecane, Ci 77491/Iron Oxides, Ci 77499/Iron Oxides, Ci 77492/Iron Oxides, Polybutene, Mica, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, Copernicia Cerifera Cera/Carnauba Wax/Cire De Carnauba, Silica Silylate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate.

Why I Love It

It lasts all day! I use this to tightline my upper lash line. After the Marc Jacobs Highliner was discontinued, I needed a replacement liner for my waterline that doesn’t run. This one has worked well for me, and it’s much cleaner. Since I just use it to tight line (push & squiggle it into my lash line), I don’t worry about wasting product by sharpening it too often. It is soft and doesn’t irritate my eyes.

Why I Love It

This brush is fabulous for winged liner. It is very precise and easy to handle.

Tips

I use this to apply dark brown eyeshadow as a wing on my hooded eyes to create a softer look than with eyeliner (I extend the wing out onto the hood as if the hood is not there). I find that this slightly blended wing of eyeshadow looks more natural than liquid eyeliner on the hood of my eye. However, I still apply eyeliner along my top lash line and connect it to the wing to give it a seamless look.

Ingredients:

Water, Algae Extract, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Copernicia Cerifera Cera, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Oleic Acid, Raphanus Sativus (Radish) Root Extract

Why I Love It

I have been using this for many years as an eyelash primer to keep my mascara from smudging throughout the day. It also adds some volume and length to my lashes that I don’t get with mascara alone. It’s clean and reliable. One tube lasts me about a year.

Tips

I apply this to my lashes after my setting powder. I gently blot off the excess with my fingertips and let it dry while I apply the rest of my makeup. I apply my mascara as a last step.

Ingredients:

Active Ingredients: 15% Zinc-Oxide (non-nano)
Inactive Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Purified Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, C13-15 Alkane, Glycerin, Lauroyl Lysine, Polyglyceryl-2 Oleate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Tocopherol, Kappaphycus Alvarezii Extract, Caesalpinia Spinosa Fruit Extract, Melanin, Bisabolol, Hyaluronic Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Phospholipids, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, Sodium Chloride, Propylene Carbonate, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Titanium Dioxide (C.I.77891), Iron Oxides (C.I.77492, C.I. 77491, C.I.77499)

Why I Love It

I am kind of blown away by this foundation. It literally plumps up my skin! To me, it is a clean dupe for the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream. However, it is definitely not as affordable, though a little goes a long way. If you have normal to dry skin, this is a good investment for a daily foundation.

Tips

It will look quite dewy when you apply it. I get oily as the day goes on, so I definitely need setting powder with this one.

*EWG listing is outdated for this product. I used EWG’s Build Your Own Report feature.
**Think Dirty’s listing does not contain sunflower seed oil & includes additional outdated ingredients, but maintains a low score even with those.

Ingredients:

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ricinus communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Lanolin USP, Silica (Silicon Dioxide), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Carmine (CI 75470), Carnauba Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Tocopherol (Non-GMO Soy Derived)

Why I Love It

I often use this luxurious cream pigment on my cheeks, but it can also be worn on the eyes and lips! It is very pigmented so a little goes a long way, and I find it to be pretty long-lasting compared to other natural cream multi-use color products. Rapture is my go-to shade, but on natural “no-makeup” look days, I like to use the shade Desire in and slightly above my eyelid crease and cheeks. I also love the shade Nymph for a slightly more dramatic look.

Tips

I either dab it on the area I want and blend it out with my fingers or use the round edge of a dry makeup sponge.

  1. Johanna,
I am blown away by your research!
I am excited to try the products you recommend. I feel they would be safer to use than what I am now using.
It’s nice to know someone is looking out for the rest of us who enjoy wearing makeup!
