My simple, all natural lip care routine.

I live in a somewhat dry climate and my lips get easily dried out in the winter. If you’re like me, you know it is unpleasant to deal with dry, peeling lips. Do I use a ton of products to heal my lips? No. Was I tempted to try a million exfoliators to see which one would work without making the problem worse? Yes.

After I tried a few different products, I finally found that when it comes to lip my care, simpler is better. See below for my simple, natural lip care routine that I’ve used to help bring moisture back into my lips

For any products listed below, you will find their safety scores according to the Environmental Working Group and the Think Dirty app, as well as links & downloads to each product’s safety report from EWG.
I also triple-check them with the Switch Natural app, as even some cosmetics that are EWG Verified contain potentially harmful ingredients.

My Natural Lip Care Routine:

Step 1

Exfoliate

After trying a few exfoliators, I found that they either didn’t do enough, or they made the problem worse. So, I went back to simply holding a warm, damp washcloth to my lips for a few seconds before rubbing off any peeling skin in the morning and at night (and sometimes once or twice during the day). As a bonus, this is free!

Step 2

Moisturize

There are two products I like to layer on for moisture. I don’t use products like Aquaphor or Vaseline because I don’t want to ingest silicones or petroleum jelly, and I notice that when they wear off, my lips are back to feeling dry. I have found a combination of Waxelene and Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm to be the closest alternative to those conventional products. They are both super moisturizing on their own, but when used together, multiple times a day, my lips feel like they are getting a much-needed drink of water.

Ingredients:

Organic Beeswax, Organic Soy Oil, Organic Soy Oil, Natural Vitamin E Oil.

Ingredients:

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Butter, Organic Beeswax, Organic Castor Oil, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Vanilla Extract, Organic Rosemary Extract, Organic Rosehip Extract & Organic Seabuckthorn Extract

There are a few flavors, but Vanilla, Pomegranate, and Cool Mint are my favorites.

*Note:  If you are allergic to essential oils and/or prefer not to use them, Osmia makes a lip balm without them.

** The Think Dirty Listing does not include Beet Root, but I ventured a guess that it would not change the score.

This is a real treat for those of us who want some actual moisture in our lip color. This is basically lip care doubling as lipgloss. It’s made with organic ingredients and it has an anti-aging, smoothing effect on the lips. I love how silky this feels when I apply it and how plump my lips look when I wear it!

Step 3

Humidify Your Environment

During the winter, I love to sleep with a humidifier on, as I have noticed this also helps keep my lips from getting too dry. I use this one from LEVOIT 4L (commissions earned). I like it because I can add essential oils if I’m feeling a little fancy. Just be sure to clean it regularly.

Step 4

Drink Enough Water

Enough said 🙂
