Why Choose Non-Toxic Beauty Brands?
The holiday season is just around the corner, and with it comes the inevitable quest to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones. This year, why not step away from the crowded aisles of Sephora and embrace the growing world of high-performance, non-toxic beauty? (Hint: Sephora does not carry most of these products. In my opinion, the "Clean At Sephora" label is useless!) These products not only look great, but they also prioritize your health, the environment, and the well-being of animals.
What Does Non-Toxic Beauty Really Mean?
When we talk about non-toxic beauty, we’re referring to products that are free from harmful chemicals and additives typically found in conventional cosmetics. This includes parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, phenoxyethanol, talc, PEG compounds (I also exclude (with a few rare exceptions!) the numerous products that contain lake dyes, which can contain carcinogenic PAHs), and other ingredients that can lead to skin irritation or worse. Truly non-toxic beauty brands focus on using natural ingredients that are gentle and safe for our skin, making them ideal holiday gifts for the health-conscious friends in your life. However, since most brands are not completely non-toxic and even most conventional beauty brands have at least a few products I would consider clean, I have checked the ingredients of hundreds of products, and included here the ones I love, are highly reviewed, or I thought would make a nice gift for the crunchy, woo-woo person in your life!

The Switch Natural app is SO WORTH IT. I use this app all the time to help me evaluate beauty products. Scan any ingredient label (health, household & beauty products) and it will flag problematic ingredients - PLUS it links to research to tell you WHY.
Handmade Press-On Nails (Safer Adhesive Options!)
I Absolutely Love Wearing My Glamade Press-Ons. Glamade Has 100's Of Cute Styles. They Also Sell Nail Glue With No BHT, BHA, or Dyes. (I Use The Sticky Tabs For Ease Of Reuse.) Nails Are Made Of High-Quality ABS Plastic (a safe material without harsh chemicals like formaldehyde, toluene, or DBP, which are sometimes found in other nail products). Keep in mind that no press-ons are going to be completely non-toxic as adhesives are still used.
